ENCORE GOES TO BAT FOR MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL

'Summer Catch' movie bannerEncore Video Productions, Inc. of Myrtle Beach, (SC) created three location production assignments for Major League Baseball.

For MLB's weekly program This Week in Baseball, Encore taped a behind-the-scenes segment during filming of the Warner Bros. motion picture Summer Catch, on location in Southport, NC. The film, about a Cape Cod League baseball team, stars Freddie Prinze, Jr. and features appearances by home run king Hank Aaron and fellow Hall of Famer Carlton Fisk.

An Encore production crew then traveled to Charlotte, NC to tape another This Week in Baseball segment, focusing on the sophomore season of Chicago White Sox pitcher Kip Wells. The segment included an interview with Wells, his manager, and his pitching coach, together with game footage of Wells pitching for the Charlotte Knights, the White Sox's International League farm team.

Encore production personnel were on hand to document the surprise visit of Major League Baseball executive Hernan Tudela to the Ladson, SC home of Sara McDonald, the winner of MLB's Father's Day Essay contest, "Why My Dad Is My Hero". The teenager's father, David Phalon, received a congratulatory phone call from Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan, a free trip for his family to Texas to see Ryan's Round Rock Express minor league team, and an invitation for Phalon to take batting practice against Ryan, baseball's all-time strikeout leader. Immediately after the visit, Encore edited its footage into an air-ready Electronic Press Kit and transmitted the EPK via satellite to TV stations across the country.
