ENCORE PRODUCES ELECTRONIC PRESS KIT FOR ELMO'S FEATURE FILM DEBUT

Encore Video Productions, Inc. of Myrtle Beach, (SC) created behind-the-scenes video production on'Elmo In Grouchland' movie title the set of the feature film Elmo in Grouchland, the big screen debut of the lovable Elmo from Sesame Street.

The Columbia Pictures release, produced in association with Jim Henson Productions and Children's Television Workshop, was filmed at EUE Screen Gems Studios in Wilmington, NC.

Encore's footage captured the making of the motion picture, as well as interviews with Elmo and co-stars Vanessa L. Williams ("Eraser") and Mandy Patinkin ("Chicago Hope"). Patinkin plays Huxley, a greedy thief who snatches Elmo's beloved blanket, leading our hero and the entire Sesame Street cast of characters on a rescue mission through a far-away land full of rude, grouchy, trash-loving creatures. Williams sings and dances as Grouchland's Queen of Trash.

In addition to the footage and interviews for the film's Electronic Press Kit, Encore produced location footage and interviews with Elmo, Patinkin and Williams for featured stories on "Access Hollywood" and "Entertainment Tonight". The company also shot a skit starring Elmo for a meeting of executives from K-Mart, announcing a marketing tie-in with the film.

"I've always been a huge fan of Jim Henson Productions, and the entire 'Elmo in Grouchland' experience was amazing," said Encore president and DP Rik Dickinson. "From the extremely large and richly detailed sets, to the remarkable skills of the people behind the Sesame Street cast of Muppets, it was without a doubt the most interesting and enjoyable experience I've ever had on a motion picture location."

Dickinson said the massive sets, which took up virtually every square foot of several of the studio's sound stages, together with the large cast of characters, created a uniquely difficult challenge for him and his Encore crews: to creatively capture the action of the scene being shot, yet to stay invisible to the "Elmo in Grouchland" camera, cast and crew.

"In addition we were required not to shoot any Muppet out of character...limp...so their fans, 'Sesame Seeds', could not see them as simple puppets," Dickinson explained. "This made it extremely difficult to shoot behind the scenes because when the director yelled cut, all the Muppets went limp. For the same reason we couldn't shoot any Muppetier operating his or her Muppet."

"'For me as a videogrpher, 'Elmo' was a little ticklish," he deadpanned.

Encore has more than 20 years' experience in EPK production for feature films, including "The Hudsucker Proxy", "I Know What You Did Last Summer", and "Virus", a film starring Jamie Lee Curtis and William Baldwin.
